STILLWATER, Okla. – Oklahoma State University welcome Mexican faculty and students from Universidad Popular Autonoma del Estado de Puebla (UPAEP) and The Monterrey Institute of Technology and Higher Education (ITSEM) universities to OSU’s campus. The group is here for a program, Experience Oklahoma, which will take place during the month of June.

These students and professors will learn about the American culture through classes and cultural experiences.

The session kicked off with a luncheon where OSU faculty welcomed them to Oklahoma.

David Henneberry, associate vice president of International Studies and Outreach, encouraged the participants to soak up as much as they can while they are here and take advantage of the opportunity to learn more about OSU.

The program’s purpose is to create an exchange to assist participants in improving their conversational ability. The excursions provide them an outlet to practice their English and get accustomed to the culture.

Some of the outings the group will go on include The Botanic Garden at OSU, Keystone Lake, Oklahoma City downtown and historical sites, Tulsa and a trip down Route 66.

“We hope these students and faculty will return to Mexico with an appreciation for American way of life,” said Elizabeth Carver-Cyr, coordinator, Mexican summer programs. “We believe the program we put on for the Mexicans is very well-rounded and gives them opportunities to experience as much culture and language that our four weeks together offers.”
