Saltillo is an old colonial city founded in 1575 and is the state capital of
Coahuila, the 3rd largest state in Mexico. It is located
539 miles North of Mexico City by way of federal highways 57 and 45.
Because of its close proximity to the U.S., Saltillo is best known for its automotive
assembly plants. The industrial, agriculture and commercial activities, as well
as its many tourist attractions, have made Saltillo one of the best places to visit
in northern Mexico. The architectural heritage of Saltillo
is reflected in the large number of buildings constructed of pink quarry and limestone.
Banks with ATM machines can be found throughout Saltillo. During business hours,
the Casas de Cambio or banks will buy traveler’s checks and cash as well.
