Master's International Program (MIP)
Peace Corps Volunteers at Oklahoma State University have the opportunity to obtain a
Master's International degree in International
Studies.
The MIP offers the unique opportunity to incorporate Peace Corps service into
a master's degree program. While as many as 40 universities in the U.S. offer the
MIP, only three are in the field of international studies. One of these is at Oklahoma
State University in the School of International Studies.
MIP candidates are part of the Master of Science in International Studies program.
This program, with its flexible, multi-disciplinary curriculum, provides students
with a broad understanding of global issues as well as a specialized, professional
focus. The M.S. program consists of 33 credit hours. MIP candidates complete 24
credit hours before entering the Peace Corps.
After service, students will enroll in 9 credit hours to complete their degree;
however, they do not need to be in residence at OSU in order to complete the final
components of the degree. Six hours will be for an internship report regarding work-related
duties in the Peace Corps. The remaining three hours will be for a creative component,
a project that grows out of Peace Corps activities.
It is important to note that the Peace Corps requires that interested participants
first be accepted into a graduate school that offers an MI program option before
the candidate can apply to Peace Corps service. School of International Studies
