Welcome to our Parents Page!

Family and friends are a vital part of the study abroad process, from the decision to study abroad through planning, preparing, participating, and returning. We in the Study Abroad/NSE Office appreciate the contribution you make to a successful experience abroad and we hope you will enjoy sharing the study abroad adventure with your student.

The Study Abroad/NSE Office offers almost 70 exchanges in 33 countries (including the US!), and is affiliated with many other organizations and institutions that provide opportunities to suit the diverse needs of OSU students. For more basic information, such as a description of program options and funding opportunities, look under the Prospective Participants link in the sidebar on the left of this page.

We have created this section to include information and links to brochures and websites to help you understand the study abroad process so you can be an informed partner in this international undertaking. The Parents page addresses some of the concerns you might have as your friend or family member studies abroad. Most of the information in this section is covered in a pre-departure orientation offered by the Study Abroad/NSE Office. In addition to the academic and cultural aspects of studying abroad, helping to ensure the health and safety of students abroad is a particular concern and will be covered both in this section. Please note that your student's program may also have its own policies and procedures.

Studying abroad has become not only common, but is a key component in a complete academic program. It can be the most life-changing and lasting aspect of a student’s education. While we believe that each student is ultimately responsible for his or her experience abroad, we want to provide the very best preparation and support possible. We are pleased to have you join us in this endeavor!

Please note that the information contained in these pages is focused towards study abroad periods of a semester or more. However, much of the information on the "Advice and Helfpul Links" page may be helpful for OSU college-based programs. The faculty leader of a college-based program will be the best source of information regarding the requirements, rules, and special needs for students participating in these programs.
