Donald and Cathey Humphreys

Donald and Cathey Humphreys are high school sweethearts from Tulsa, Oklahoma. Their interest in creating global citizens has provided OSU students with access to new international experiences.

Donald earned his bachelor’s degree in industrial engineering in 1971 and an MBA from the Wharton School at the University of Pennsylvania in 1976. Cathey graduated from the University of Oklahoma with a business education degree in 1970 and later worked at the Spears School of Business.

Donald, an OSU Distinguished Alumni and a member of the Halls of Fame for OSU Alumni, the Spears School of Business and the College of Engineering, Architecture and Technology, rose to the title of Senior Vice President and Treasurer of ExxonMobil. During a four- year period in his career, he, Cathey and their family lived in Kuala Lumpur, Malaysia. This experience ingrained a deep appreciation for the challenges and rewards of living and conducting business across different cultures, geographies, and political systems. This was also the first study abroad experience for the couple’s three daughters, and strongly reinforced the value of learning outside one’s own culture.

Due to their international experience, the Humphreys have shown their support for the internationalization of OSU by donating $6 million to support the University’s study abroad program under the School of International Studies in the Division of International Studies and Outreach. The gift funds several endowed faculty chairs as well as the student study abroad scholarships.
